TRANSLATOR AND INTERPRETER

Both of translator and interpreter words come from translating and interpreting, they have closed meaning, but they performed by two different people. They are two linguistics diciplines that always correlate each other. Translator always relate with written text or document, while interpreter work orally and simultaneously. As the decision and presuppose, both of them should mastered language and more knowledge.

Some similarities between translator and interpreter are translating languge to target language, mastered langauage grammatically, have more knowledge about culture, matered the way to translating. Although they have similarities, both of them differences in practicing. Translator always has time and chance to translate written text or document, interpreter not. She or he must be able to translate language continously, and speak up clearly . “The main obvious differences in the processes of translation versus interpreting have to do with technical constraints. Translators have hours, days, weeks or longer to deal with problems that arise, whereas interpreters only have seconds or minutes” (Gile (2004:12).

Kinds of interpreter, consecutive interpreting is translatation activity of language orally. Commonly interpreter stay with the person who will translate, she or he take note and translate it. There will be chance give to the interpreter to translate target language, between both flitting in speaking. Sequentially, native speaker, interpreter, native speaker, interpreter, native speaker, interpreter, and so on. Other simultaneous interpreting is translating simultaneously, they stay at particular place like box booth. Native speaker and interpreter stay at different place. And then, liason interpreting is translating target language formally such as in education discussion and politics and so on. Moreover whispered interpretation is translating of target language whispered. Native speaker and interpreter closely stay. Interpreter not allow to speak loudly.
